The 2015 Kennedy Center Honorees
Ahh, this is too early in the year and I almost missed it (usually it happens around Labor Day)! The Kennedy Center Honorees for 2015 were announced yesterday and I am so excited about the list. Of course I naturally gravitate toward the actresses that picked up the honor, so I am super-pumped that Rita Moreno (who has been hunting for this award for eons), as well as living legend Cicely Tyson both made the list (I can't wait to see the dance tributes to Moreno and the inevitably brilliant things Viola Davis, who is a long-professed admirer of Tyson's, will say on the evening). In addition, we had George Lucas, Star Wars creator, getting the second leg in his Cinematic Life Achievement Triple Crown, along with the Eagles and Carole King providing solid musical relief (heart them both, though especially King as she is a favorite of my mom's). Oh, and then of course there's poor Seiji Ozawa, who is the honoree no one has heard of and won't get any headlines. He can take comfort in being arguably the most accomplished conductor from Japan in the last 100 years or so and being the first Japanese person to ever win the Kennedy Center Honor. Congrats to all of the victors-can't wait for December!
